Downe Home: The Polyester King Joins Our Comedy Queen
The host of the fictional daytime TV show Good Morning Murwillumbah, Bob Downe is one of the most loved and enduring comedy characters in the Australian comedy scene.
Outrageous, offbeat, spontaneous and absolutely on point, Bob Downe is in a league of his own.
Back in 1988 the hosts of Good Morning Melbourne threw to the fictional ‘Good Morning Murwillumbah’ with hosts Bob Downe (aka Mark Trevorrow) and Coralee Hollow (Gina Riley aka Kath & Kim!) This was a hysterical segment that boasted it was putting out 51/2 hours of regional TV every day!
This was the beginning of the Bob Downe foundation story. He blasted onto our screens back in 1987 with Andrew Denton and has been delighting us ever since.
I’ve toured with Bob as his opening act, and he is without a doubt one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen. Bob says: ‘ Ellen DeGeneres were separated at birth. Of course, everyone already knows that don’t they? I had my ears fixed though.’
But Bob has a dirty secret! He’s never done a show in Murwillumbah!
So I invited him to perform a blast from the past, a tribute to the town that Bob speaks of every time he hits the stage. Bob Downe is coming to Murwillumbah ….Downe Home!
He’s been doing it for over 40 years and he’s not stopping any time soon.
Please join me when I welcome the Clown Prince of Polyester Prince, Bob Downe to Murwillumbah Civic Hall.
He sings. He dances. He takes good care of his hair.
